Thanks, well, this is admittedly an incomplete list. Sweeney is still on my must-see list, and I much regret not making more of an effort to see I'm Not There...
All in all 2007 turned out to be a pretty good year. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on TWBB!
Steve, I enjoy following your blog, though do not read as much of this or any as I would like. FWIW, I'd like to ask a pesky question about the movie world, seeing that you give it a lot of thought and understanding, etc. You'll know this is along the general lines of my query about the music blog some months back. :) What redeeming value can we give to the music industry as a whole? Can we assign a value that says, in the end, that we are better off for it than we would be without it? Or is it really a matter of degrees, anything can have abuses, artistry is good for its own sake, etc.? You can see I'm wrestling with the Q/A of this. I gain alot from watching some movies, e.g. recently watched Anne of Gr. Gables to much benefit in my spirit & thought. To me it is a story beautifully portrayed that speaks to themes deep and meaningful in the human experience. I just find myself, reacting no doubt, thinking that H-Wood has given so much bad for our culture -- and the media/entertainment absorption which it engenders and requires is a wrong in itself -- that it is hard to be confident the industry is worthy of protecting or even paying attention to. Does this mean a child's Christmas play is a bad thing, being in seed form the very thing that H-Wood does, i.e., acting? I don't think so, and the reasons seem obvious.
Hope you can at least humor me. This may not be valid thinking and you can help me see why. But I am asking you b/c I think you've thought about it alot and will receive these thoughts without rancor or unjustified reaction. Or you can ignore them -- :)
Great list. I would definitely swap Eastern Promises for Sweeney Todd, though!
